Andy is a recently retired Chief Superintendent and has worked in all ranks in Operational Policing and Criminal Investigations Department. He has significant experience in working at a National strategic level within the service having served as a staff officer to a Chief Constable who held the National Portfolio lead for Conflict Management. During this time, he has also had the opportunity to work with the Wales Office in Central Government supporting Ministers on policing matters.
Andy was the Head of the Criminal Investigations Department prior to his retirement and has significant experience of dealing with serious crime. He was the Senior Investigating Officer for a murder investigation which resulted in the largest ever UK search operation and has delivered presentations on his investigations to National Senior Investigating Officers conferences. He has been commended by his Chief Constable for a number of investigations which included successfully leading a difficult, very high-profile murder investigation relating to a young child.
Andy also has experience of investigating deaths abroad including the death of a UK citizen in Thailand where he worked closely with the Royal Thai Police and Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
In addition to being an accredited Senior Investigating Officer Andy has significant operational experience as Head of the Force Uniform Policing Department and as a Strategic Firearms Commander.
During recent years, Andy has mentored officers and staff seeking promotion in the police service and has extensive experience in promotion processes, both as a candidate and panel member.
